2015 Soon?

You read that right, 2015 will be here in 15 days. That is just a little over 2 weeks for those of you who are counting it down like me. So just like every new year, people make the best of intentions with resolutions. These usually only last about 3 weeks until they fizzle out and that is it. They go back to their old ways and beat themselves up for not trying harder to do better. It takes 21 days for a new habit to be created and if one does not stick out for every single day, it is hard to get into a new routine, no matter what the habit is.

So instead of waiting until 2015 or 15 days from today, I thought I would get my list out there early and starting working on it today, not waiting for tomorrow or for that 'special occasion' of New Years to make something and set some goals up.

15 for '15
  1. Take 15 minutes a day to reflect.
  2. Begin a daily writing journal of roses and thorns.
  3. Exercise. no matter what. no excuses.
  4. Hike at least 20 times.
  5. Read 10 books for fun
  6. Run my 2nd 1/2 marathon
  7. Complete a 90 day challenge
  8. Spend less time on Social Media
  9. Stop drinking soda altogether
  10. Enjoy chocolate once a week
  11. Organize a sheet of when to clean the house
  12. Spend 10 minutes a day with Bailey
  13. Crochet more
  14. Take steps to become more comfortable in my own skin
  15. Take steps to hit my goal weight/clothing size

Now you know what is up my sleeve for 2015. What are some of your goals?

Step by Step

Some days the hole I try to climb out of is too hard and I slip and fall back into it. The hole is a black pit where the light is just not visible and I wonder if it is even worth it to try to find that light. Yet, I keep fighting and keep the torch going because I know the light is there, I have seen it and have been so close. It has been within fingers reach and I slipped back into that hole, not as determined to get out as I was the first time. But I am making a conscious effort.

I have been lying to myself for the past 6 months with 'logging' my food even though I know that I have been eating other things from what I have logged and the calorie count has been higher than I have wanted to admit. I love all food and I have a hard time staying away from the things I know are bad for me.

I am finally realizing that I need to take control of my eating habits and find myself again. Climb out of this ugly hole so that I can live life fully without feeling trapped. So here I am opening myself up to the ugly truth but also trying to change things around. I want to make a list of roses (good) and thorns (bad). The hope is to recognize the good things and work on the not so good.

Rose: Tracked everything the past 2 days and ate under budget.
Thorn: Not exercising

Here is to continuing my success of tracking and working on working out more often.

100 Days to Weight Loss Motivational

Things are finally starting to look up with my eating. I finally got my first real workout this morning and it felt awesome! I definitely need to do more workouts with Turbo Fire.

So I bought the book called '100 Days of Weight Loss'. Every day you read 1 page and then do the activity that it asks you to do. I have gotten through 2 days and I really like the book so far.

Day 1: I used to be that way... The goal is to identify your fears and write them down. Fears tend to be negative so the goal is to change them into something more positive. So you turn your fears into something positive with this... I used to...... but now....

Day 2: Interested or committed.... Most people chose interested as their way of doing weight loss. They do it when it is convenient but once a night out or event around food, all of the regiment and routine goes out the window. You say to yourself 'just this one time' and then you become a repeat offender of that excuse.

The other type of person is the committed type. This is the type of person who does not budge when there is temptation.

I am the interested person and am planning to actively work on being a committed person. The hardest part of being committed is the unplanned food in the teachers room and I cannot say no. I start today, making better decisions and saying 'no' when it comes to the food that is not planned in my menu. I need to be committed, to take back my life.

Whole, happy and healthy

The lies and deceit running through your head,
tell their story without any words.
The silent story with which has unfolded,
Around your waist line and impulsivity.

The days are not long ago that you were worse off,
But the days were also not long ago when you were better.
You long for the days when you were better,
And dread these days when things are getting bad.

Battle after battle, you fight and try.
Some you win but most you lose.
The lies in your head tell you one side,
While your heart aches to tell the other side.

Yet, you give up on your heart and listen to your head.
Where does that get you?
To the days of being bad, where nothing seemed right,
Your vision so blurred and unclear that you had no fight.

Fighting is worth it, you just need to find it.
That spark, that vision, that motivation.
It once was there, raging inside of you,
Helping you along to feel those better days.

Here you sit crying for your spark to come back,
While your demons and thoughts run through your head.
The cake, cookies, chocolate and lies,
You just want to grab it and take it and pretend no one sees.

The ones that care about you, they do see,
They make a mental note to bring up to you later,
Everything you eat is on display for the world to see.
That doesn't stop you, the euphoria of food is too good.

The media attention scrutinizes the fat,
You hate your body because you are fat.
Yet you wish that your food addiction left,
So you could feel whole, happy and healthy again.

You cry for the body you wish you had,
The one you were robbed of at such a young age.
The extra fat, the extra skin never goes away,
The scars to remind you of where you have been.

Skinny Rules Week 1

It has been a whole week since I started the Skinny Rules by Bob Harper. I was really excited about starting the program and it turned out to be a great thing. Mind you I am still working on some of the rules but I followed a majority of them. I felt better that first day, all the junk or most of it out of my system.

So what were the results? Well, a 4.8 lb LOSS! I was so happy and speechless when I got on the scale this morning. The coolest thing ever. I plan to continue to keep on going with the plan since it is working well for me. I hope to hit my first goal relatively soon, maybe even before the end of the month!

Here is to another awesome week!

Putting on the Breaks

Howdy all!

I just looked at my blog and it has been almost 2 months since I have posted anything. Say what? So here I am, resurrected, back from the reality of things letting you all know I am still around. Thanks Amy for pushing me to jump back into it.

It is amazing how stressful teaching is and trying to keep a normal life outside of school.

As you know from following my blog, I have tried a bunch of different meal plans and have struck out on every single one. So, I am giving it one final shot with one that I stumbled across thanks to my friend Arlene. After reading it I totally loved it and was all on board for it.

It is called 'Skinny Rules' by Bob Harper. In the book he lays out rules that you must follow in order to succeed in losing weight. Some of them are no brainers, others I had to think about. Like for example, rule #13, get rid of fast foods and fried foods, that is an easy one! I follow a majority of them and have no problems but there are some that I know I am going to struggle with.

This month I am focusing on some of the rules I know I will struggle with. I am going to focus on Rule #1, making sure I have a glass of water right after getting out of bed in the morning is tough but this morning I had my glass right there on the nightstand which was good.

#12 is going to be a tough one because I do not eat fish, so I have decided to go the bean route and hopefully that will work. I know Bob stresses seafood but I cannot get myself to eat fish.

Lastly, #18, who goes to bed hungry? I have never done that before but to make a point of it, is an interesting concept. I think I am going to have to move my time for the kitchen being closed from 8pm to 7:30pm and see how that goes.

So what gives me hope that this plan may work? Well, after day 1 and trying all the food that I prepared, I really enjoyed it especially the Italian Turkey Burgers. Most of all though, while reading the book, and he highly encouraged GREEK YOGURT my attention was officially grabbed. Many of the diets I had tried discouraged dairy and greek yogurt but I know that is a staple for me and my life so to be encouraged to eat it, I am all about it!

Here I go, the next month I am going to change my eating habits, get back to exercising and recommit to changing my life. No more being unhappy for gaining weight and not fitting in my clothes. Here is t getting back under 200 and getting out of these 16 pants again and never looking back!

Stay tuned because this is a journey you are not going to want to miss!

Oh hey you beautiful blog

I have really missed blogging and it has been far too long. Amazing how the summer has just gone right past me and I have not even blinked!

To recap the craziest summer of my life...
End of June- Went to Florida
July 3rd- Got a 2nd grade teaching job! Yay!
July- August 11th- Looking for an apartment, packing my bedroom, unpacking in my classroom

And lots of other things in between. Tomorrow I am leaving for a week and a half and by the time I get back home it will be moving day which is August 30th!!

School starts September 2nd!

Went to get a physical today and the scale registered at 211 lbs. While there are some other factors like my period, clothing and it being the middle of the day, this number is completely unacceptable. I rang in the New Year at 179 lbs. Go ahead and say holy crap, I certainly have..

For those who are mathematically illiterate, that is a whopping 32 lbs less than I currently weigh now.

Yep, I did that, I am the loser who let my knee injury get the best of me and say screw it all. But here I am back in the saddle. I started TurboFire again today and will be following that through for the next 4 months. I am determined to get back to 179 and continue my journey. I want to make it to 25 and be at a happy weight.

So here is to all the wonderful new things that are happening in life, and here is to my health! Cheers!

Bump In The Road

All journeys have bumps in the road, and mine is certainly no exception. It has been one of the toughest things to get through but I am starting to finally see the light at the end of a tunnel that I never thought I would get through.

Let's recap all that happened and I will explain away the 25 lbs I gained. (It's all about excuses right?)

  1. March- 1/2 marathon which resulted in a knee injury
  2. April- Easter and a 6 lb gain. Boo hoo I can't walk, nor run, so let's eat instead.
  3. May- I am pissed I just gained 6 lbs, screw it I am done counting calories. Let's try different food plans and see if MORE restrictive is better.
  4. June- Oh crap, what have I done? 25 lbs added on? Not able to fit in my shorts or regular pants? Ugh.
  5. July- Game time, start exercising and recording what I eat. Getting a game plan started for August.
So there we have it, run down of the months and the crap job I did with eating and not exercising. Which means enough blaming and self loathing, now it's time to pick myself up and keep go.

I have a vision, a desired goal to loose 30 lbs before my 25th birthday which is in 221 days. So, I need to get focused, get over these bumps in the road and start cruising again. I know the way and the path, I just need to get myself motivated to do it.

21 Day Fix

So tomorrow is the start of a new day for me!! I ordered the 21 day fix and it is officially here!!

To be honest, I was a little shocked at how small the containers are to be putting food in. I decided that I am going to go between two brackets on the food chart so that I am not eating the same amount every day. So I will be hitting between 1,500-1,799 on four days and 1,800-2,099 on three days.

I weighed in this morning as it is the beginning of the month and will not weigh in until the 15th or, quite possibly when I am finished with the 21 day fix.

Weight as of May 18th: 197 lbs
Weight as of June 2nd: 195 lbs

-2 lbs

I will take it, that is for sure. I am looking forward to this new challenge to see what I can do before I get ready to take Florida by storm at the end of the month. I have also figured out that I can get in a few rounds before my cousins wedding in October down in Georgia.

I finally feel like I am taking back control of my eating and exercising. Like I can really make an impact again on my eating because I do not want to yo-yo anymore. Some say losing weight is the easy part, the real challenge comes with maintaining.

I just want to put this out there.

Hello, my name is Ashley and I am a food addict.

But it stops here and tomorrow is a brand new start to a new day, a new challenge.

Re-motivated

I have been struggling the past few months to get re-motivated. I am not able to do any running because of bursitis in my knee so I gave up on exercise and my eating was shot. Just recently I realized that I need to not give up on myself and since I have come so far I need to stop and get back on the bandwagon. Since I have fallen off, I have gained 17 lbs. That is right, you read it correctly.

I had been looking on Pinterest on what I could do for motivation and I found a fit commitment pledge that you write down your goals with exercise and eating and then it ends with a pledge that you sign and a witness signs.

So I have signed my commitment and it started on Sunday. In my opinion it is the best decision I could have made. This week I have been more successful in my eating and exercising than I have been in the past two months.

How do you re-motivate yourself to get on the healthy eating bandwagon?

Personal Commitment
A successful lifestyle change requires you to be fully committed to changing your habits. By formally agreeing to this contract, you confirm your commitment to your goals.

I, Ashley G. , am ready to retake control of my life and my health. I agree and recommit to take the following steps to guarantee my success myself and institute healthy lifestyle changes.
  1. I make these changes for myself and no one else.
  2. I will not let one small slip up convince me that I cannot achieve my goals.
  3. I will respect myself by refusing to engage in verbal self-abuse. When feeling down, I will find positive affirmations and people to support and encourage me.
  4. I will not sacrifice my needs for the benefit of others.
  5. I will take responsibility for my decisions and behaviors whether positive or negative.
  6. I will make living a healthier lifestyle my priority.

By signing below I certify that I am fully recommitted to changing my lifestyle so that I can improve my well-being and live my healthiest life.

28 Day Challenge

Over the past almost 2 years I have counted calories to drop the weight I have. But now I have gotten too complacent with my eating habits and I have stalled and gained some weight back. I tried the State of Slim plan and I failed at it miserably. I could not get past the idea of being in the same phase for more than one week at a time. It just did not work for me.

So my friend Jen looked into SOS and the Fast Metabolism Diet to see which one fit her lifestyle. She tried the Fast Metabolism Diet which has 3 phases that are cycled in one week. The first phase focuses on fruits and grains. Second phase is vegetables and protein. Third phase are a combination of the first two phases plus healthy fats/oils.

This program even tells you which exercises to do on each phase. Phase 1 is all cardio; walking, running. Phase 2 is all about weight lifting. Phase 3 is yoga, massage, stuff that centers you.

I decided that I needed a change, a challenge to get me going again. Here I am, day 1 starting of the 28 day challenge. Gone are my calorie counting days. Gone are my complete self control of what I eat. I am trusting the Fast Metabolism Diet to get the rest of my weight down. There is no cheating anymore, I am eating to the T. Here I go, jumping in to it, I am all in and ready to make a change. I am not sure what the results will be but stay tuned to hear about what happens!

Tuesday Weigh In

I knew going into this weigh in that I was going to be up. But I did not realize how up until I looked at the number on the scale. I am pretty sure I screamed like a little girl because I was in shock about how much it had gone up!

2 weeks ago: 181 lbs
Today: 193.8 lbs

Holy crap! That is like a serious 12 lbs in 2 weeks! I know it is not 100% accurate but still that is a seriously scary jump in numbers. It certainly has me rethinking and retraining myself in a few different ways.

  1. Listen to your body to identify when if you are hungry or tired
  2. Determine whether you are hungry or thirsty
  3. Leave 2 hours between meals.
  4. Keep calm, the food will always be there!
  5. Get reorganized and plan, prep and plan!
So here I am, recommitting as of yesterday to get my butt in gear again. Am trying the Fast Metabolism Diet to see if that will help jump start things once again. I am going to try something I ignore normally and workout just as they say. Hopefully next week will be much nicer to me. But only I have control over that.

Here I go, jumping in to another week but I am taking back control! I can do this! Check out Julie and Amy while you are at it. :)

14 Runs for 2014

I absolutely adore running. It is one of my go to outlets for stress relievers. It makes me a happy camper and I have the opportunity to think when I am running or just ignore the world. Depends on what the case may be.

Last year I was fortunate to run 3 races and I decided that this year I would tackle some more difficult stuff to see if I can do more than I ever thought.

My goal for the year?

14 races for 2014

Crazy I know, but it is a fun challenge and I love all the perks that come with running.. You know the technical shirt/jacket, mug, medal, endorphin's when the buzzer goes off to start the race, the feeling of accomplishment when you hit the finish line. Those things have driven me to meet my challenge.

So here are the races I have signed up for/done so far. I am still in need of 1 more race which I am sure will get fit in towards the end of the year. Currently I will have covered 75.5 miles!

Weigh in Tuesday

Happy Weigh In Day! I always love this day of the week because it pushes me to be better to myself and try harder with my eating habits regardless of what the scales say. Thanks to Amy for starting it, Julie getting on board and allowing me to jump in! So I have been HORRIBLE this week just for the pure fact that I am starting a new eating plan that I have been reading about and just have not given a darn as to what I have been eating.

Plus I have been stressed with my running and then my lady friend decides to be a week late so I am panicking since I can generally give you the exact date my friend is coming. Totally threw me for a loop and I did not realize that with running, my friend can be thrown off. Well I certainly was!

Last week: 185.2 lbs
This week: 181.2 lbs

LOSS 4.0 lbs!!

Pretty flipping fabulous! I just need to get myself together so that I can continue on my journey. I have realized that I am stalling myself and my weight loss. Not because I want to gain weight or stop. It is more so that I am struggling with the realization that one day when I hit my goal weight, the compliments will stop coming along. There are people who will not know my journey and what I have struggled with and I am so proud of it. There will be a day when people do not take notice at how great I look, but to them I will just be another girl who is healthy looking and takes care of herself.

Sure that is what my goal is and what I strive to be. But I know that I am going to miss that attention that I have been getting. The attention knowing that people notice where I have been and where I am headed.  I need to stop though and really get myself moving to continue. I want to inspire people to achieve their goals and I realize that right now, I am not inspiring people to achieve their goals. I am telling people it is okay to get half way, and stop but it is not. I need to stand up to myself and my struggles and tell myself I am not throwing in the towel or giving up. This journey of weight loss is not over until I am in maintenance and a whole new journey begins. This is my battle, it is half way won but just like tug of war, the strongest survive and pull that half way mark one way or another.

My goals?
Size 10 clothing

When that is won?
150 lbs

I can do think, my mind is made up. The girl scout cookies which I may am eating right now will not touch my lips again after tonight. I am a fighter and when I hit my 2 year weight loss anniversary on June 19th, I want to share with the world that I did what I thought was the impossible, beat my demons down and win that tug of war battle once and for all.

First Half Marathon EVER!

So this past weekend I ran my first half marathon!! I did a 12 week training plan and started right after I came back from my cruise in January. I traveled down to Philadelphia on Saturday, checked out the expo center and picked up my race gear and most importantly my bib which tracked where I was for anyone who wanted to track me via internet.

This was the first ever Love Run hosted by CGI racing and all the proceeds went to the Philadelphia Education Supplies Fund. There were 10,000 people signed up and ran the event which was really neat. I liked that they had the corrals set up by the time you *thought* you were going to finish.

Well, I had no idea so I put between 2:15 and 2:30 not really having any idea. I was not far off the mark. See, the thing about my training was it was ALL done on the treadmill. You read that right, there was no venturing outdoors to try and see how I would do in the elements. So I was thrilled to see my time and pace when I was finished.

Pretty fabulous pacing and net time if I do say so myself. I was beyond excited and had told myself that as long as I get in *under 3 hours* it was all good. The best part is the pacing by the end is what I had been running on the treadmill when I was training.

Started off the race very excited! I made sure to hit every camera I could so that I would have options to pick from. Notice the color of my blue coat and that I am dry. No rain at all, just wet streets. Little did I know that was ALL about to change. Ugh.

Mile 6.5 and the rain has begun! It was not too bad at first and I was just glad to be half way done with the race and my mission was to find a port a potty. Waiting in line to use the bathroom changed EVERYTHING. It began to rain pour cats and dogs. Legit! So I moved my butt so that I could get done ASAP and into clean clothes.

Finally hitting the finish line and throwing my hands up in the air because I did it! Never in a million years did I think I could run a half marathon and here I am, I did it. Do not mind the time clock because it took 6 minutes from where I was standing in the corral to the start line where the clock actually started counting. Hence why my finish time is 6 minutes shorter.

Oh and since I loved it so much, I signed up for ANOTHER half marathon in November in Philadelphia! That makes race #13 that I am signed up for. Maybe next year I will get wild and crazy and do a triathlon! Who knows.

Tuesday Weigh In

Jumping on the Tuesday weigh in bandwagon with Julie and Amy and posting on their blogs!! I am hoping this will keep me more accountable to my weight and for continuing on my weight loss journey. So depending on weigh in day with LoseIt, I will be posting weekly blogs.

Lately I have been struggling with my eating and because my weight has been plateaued for a while. Rather than looking at all my successes I have been dwelling on my failures.  I wrote myself a letter last weekend so that it will remind me to continue working on my eating habits and not to give up on all the work I have done so far.

Weigh in:

3/29- 179.6
4/1- 185.4

That is +5.8 lbs in just over 1 week.

However, there are a lot of factors to take into consideration in that I just ran a half marathon on Sunday so my body is very sore and muscles are swollen. I also ate carb heavy the last few days. But it will come off!

Goals for this week:

  • Track everything
  • Walk every day
  • Mind my carbs/proteins/fats
  • Plan ahead

Follow Through Friday

Thanks to Amy over at Diary of a Fat Girl, I decided to get on board with Follow Through Fridays.

I belong to a weight loss support group on LoseIt and have been challenged to do 10 days of clean eating and track everything you eat. Honestly, I was not sure that I would be able to do such a thing because it sounds really tough. No processed food, no sweets just good old fashioned healthy proteins, carbs and fats. Sounds just about as fun as eating cardboard.

In the last 4 days, I have found out that it is not as boring as it really sounds. The key to staying on target is meal planning and prepping. If you do not prep what you are eating or know what you are eating, chances are you are going to hit a brick wall and it give in. That has been the hardest thing the past few days because I have not  meal prepped for the week. That is the #1 reason why when I started the journey on Monday it was a major FAIL!

I have been successful the last 4 days and am looking forward to getting through the next 6  which has turned into 11 days. I decided to do 2 weeks and see how it goes and really see if I can push myself and challenge.

Meal prep for next week is finished. Bought the stuff and now have to buy the veggies on Sunday. I need to get through the next two days as I will be away from home and won't have many options as far as food goes, but I will make it work.

So my plan for the week?
1. Eat well
2. Be awesome
3. Hit my running goals
4. Drink body weight in water
5. Commit to 10 days of shakeology

It may be a challenge but I am up for it. I mean really, losing weight has never been easy for me, why would it? Plus everyone would do it if it was. Challenging myself has helped me loose the 90 lbs I have thus far!
